|
|
QUESTION: I ALWAYS THOUGHT EXEC BF'S WERE ALWAYS ONE-PIECE BIFOCALS, AND WERE CREATED USING THE SAME INDEX OF REFRACTION AND USING A GREATER CURVE GROUND ONTO THE LOWER ADD AREA ON THE FRONT TO CREATE THE GREATER BENDING OF LIGHT.
I RECENTLY SAW ON ANOTHER OPTICAL WEBSITE A REFERENCE TO THE EXEC BF BEING A TWO- PIECE BF WITH TWO DIFFERENT INDICES OF REFRACTION BEING FUSED TOGETHER OR GLUED TOGETHER OR SOMETHING. THIS IS OPPOSITE TO EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER HEARD.
I NEED SOME CLARIFICATION FROM A MORE EXPERIENCED OPTICAL PERSON AS THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 1 YR THAT I HAVE RUN ACROSS THIS REFERENCE TO A TWO-PIECE TYPE BF.
ANYONE THAT CAN CLARIFY.....PLEASE DO SO. |

OK, it's early and I hope I can make sense.
If they are two piece lenses, you may be thinking of the Franklin bifocal that looks like an exec. It's made from two lenses that are cut in half and glued together. All plastic execs are made in one casting so they would need to be the same material troughout. The only time that I've seen two different materials used in one lens is with the glass segmented bi's and tri's.
Let me know if you need more help or info.
